August crime figures

Courtesy of Beds Police

It is good to see that burglary figures are much reduced compared to some of the statistics that have been seen in recent times.

The Caddington figures are noticeably the highest for the ward during August.  Notwithstanding that it is by far and away the most populated of the six parishes, the underlying trend behind these crime figures indicated behaviour that we are not used to seeing so often in the rural villages.  A member of staff pushed by someone in the act of stealing from a store (giving two recorded crimes from a single incident), an unpaid taxi fare and windows smashed (although entry not gained) on vehicles, at a school and also at a private dwelling.  Someone being verbally abused when they challenged nuisance bikers and someone else found to be in possession of a lock-knife when arrested for an unrelated incident.  Add in seven recorded instances of anti-social behaviour and it is pretty unpleasant reading overall!  The majority of incidents were, in isolation, fairly low level crimes when compared to the profile for nearby large urban areas but I do hope that the overall picture is an unfortunate blip rather than a true indicator of what can be expected in Caddington.

It is also worth noting that, once again, vehicle crime recorded in the ward usually refers to thefts of bags, coats or other valuables from parked vehicles.  Leave nothing worth taking on display!

June crime figures for the ward

Figures courtesy of Bedfordshire Police

Domestic burglary is down (only a single instance across all six parishes) compared to the trends seen over the last couple of years, although theft from motor vehicles and/or interfering with motor vehicles is significantly up.

Shoplifting from the Co-Op in Caddington appears to be a recurrent theme over recent months, and there is one other geographical area which is becoming a hotspot for petty criminal behaviour in its own right - further discussions will be had on this topic.

February crime figures

Summarised from Beds Police reports
Studham's recent "crime free" run has been broken by two recorded instances of criminal damage last month.  The Kensworth figures are particularlty unpleasant reading, although I believe that the Police are aware of and attempting to monitor certain known repeated issues.

A recurrent theme in Whipsnade is vehicle crime, which is almost always incidents in the car parks near the tree cathedral or the common.  Please remember to make sure vehicles are secure and no valuables are left visible when visiting these popular spots.

The Slip End vehicle crimes were all instances of parts being removed from vehicles, and the criminal damage also related to a car.  Please note that these are calendar monthly figures, so the incident on March 1st is not included above.

November crime figures

Summarized figures from Bedfordshire Police

The Slip End figures do not record the illegal encampent at Timberlands as a crime, it has been recorded seperately as an anti-social behaviour incident.

The domestic burglary figures continue to be a cause for concern, with 3 in Slip End, 3 more across Kensworth and Studham and another 6 in Caddington.

The following comment is quoted from the accompanying notes to the Caddington figures, but is relevant across the whole ward:

"These domestic burglaries all tended to be committed by gaining accesses via side and rear accesses, the main target of items stolen being jewellery/watches and cash.

Bedfordshire police are committed to seeing a reduction in this crime in the village and county wide. Patrols are being stepped up and covert operations set in place; especially as burglary activity tend to increase during the months leading up to and after Christmas. We are actively trying to inform/advise the community on home security/ preventative measures and also to contact the police should they see any suspicious persons or activity taking place. "

October crime figures

Summarized figures from Bedfordshire Police

One of the two burglaries in Hyde concerned dog kennels being broken into; gun dogs had been stolen, one of which has been recovered and with a named offender.

Studham had only one recorded crime during October, plus two incidences of anti-social behaviour.

Kensworth continues to see persistent problems with issues like vehicle crime and criminal damage and Caddington's problems with domestic burglary remain.
